Montana and the nation as a whole is facing a healthcare workforce shortage. We do not have enough healthcare providers to support the growing population and it is estimated that 2.4 million new healthcare jobs will be available by 2014. Part of the mission of the Northeastern Montana Area Health Education Center (NE MT AHEC) is to develop programs to address these workforce shortage and to encourage students to pursue careers in healthcare.
Our ObjectivesEncourage youth from underserved areas/populations to pursue health careers.Encourage health professionals to select employment in rural/underserved areas.Provide continuing education/CME to health professionals employed in rural/underserved areas.

Eighty-seven percent of students who participate with AHECs nationally are from underrepresented minority groups or economically disadvantaged communities and range in age from elementary to professionals.
