We provide high-value insurance coverage, specializing in service to organizations in the healthcare industry.

In the early 90's, forward-thinking rural healthcare facility CEOs gathered to find a better way of obtaining insurance services. They wanted lower costs and more input. Through this effort, Montana Health Network developed multiple self-funded and group insurance products and services. Members in these programs have input into the oversight of the products and operations are shared in a fully transparent manner.

The products developed include General and Professional Liability, Physician Malpractice, Workers' Compensation, Directors and Officers Liability, Umbrella/Excess Liability, Privacy and Security/Cyber Insurance, Hired and Non-Owned Auto as well as Employee Health Coverage.

To assist in these services Montana Health Network employs internal Risk Managers and Medical Case Managers to review and mitigate risk, enhance return to work efforts for Workers' Compensation cases, and develop educational programs to keep participants current on trends in the industry.

General & Professional Liability

  • General Liability (GL)-Protects against claims involving property damage or bodily injury
  • Professional Liability (PL)-Covers medical malpractice for the facility and its employees while performing their professional duties.
  • Employee Benefits Liability (EBL)- Protects the employer from errors related to employee benefits in the administration of an employee benefits program.

Executive Risk Liability

  • Directors and Officers- Provides protection for the actions of the board and executive professionals from claims made against them in their capacity as leaders of the facility.
  • Employment Practices-Provides defense in the event an employee brings forth a claim related to illegal employer acts such as wrongful termination, discrimination or retaliation.

  • Cyber Liability-Protects organizations from the financial losses and liabilities resulting from cyberattacks, data breaches, and other cybersecurity incidents.
  • Fiduciary Liability-Protects employer’s assets against fiduciary-related claims of mismanagement of a company’s employee benefit plans, for example 401(k) plans.

  • Special Insurance Policies-Policies for individual or short-term purposes, for example, vacant land policies prior to building, event policies, etc.

Workers’ Compensation

Since 1990, Montana Health Network has been offering a self-insured Workers’ Compensation Trust. It is the largest self-insured in the State of Montana with a proven track record for controlling costs and returning employees to work. In-house Risk Managers, Case Managers, and Occupational Therapists focus on successful outcomes. The process is proactive starting from job analysis, employee education, through claims analysis, and return to work support. Policies, procedures, forms, and on-site support are provided.

401(k)

Montana Health Network provides a Multiple Employer Plan through Transamerica Retirement Solutions. This model makes the 401(k) plan very affordable for facilities and employees and it combines the assets of all participants when negotiating fees. In addition, it moves most of the maintenance, reporting, and the associated fiduciary responsibility away from the local Human Resource departments.

Employer Sponsored Health Insurance

Since 1993, Montana Health Network has provided a multiple employer self-funded health plan. We have a valuable partnership with PacificSource to operate the plan and extend nationwide coverage. A variety of affordable plans are offered with multiple options including group and voluntary dental and vision. The primary goal is to provide stability of rates for participating facilities. This program also has attractive options for Flex plans.

Montana Health Network has also contracted with PacificSource to provide Flexible Spending Accounts. The advantage of this arrangement is that participants have the option of having their claims moved automatically from the claims department to the flex department. This eliminates the paperwork burden for the participants and saves on lost flex reimbursement.

Medical Case Management

Nurse case management services have been provided by Montana Health Network for over 20 years. MHN utilizes certified RN nurse case managers to coordinate proper care for workers' compensation, and chronic disease management. We believe one of the keys to successful case management is early intervention and the establishment of a trusting, professional, and positive relationship between the case manager and those needing services. MHN’s goal is to be part of the team to ensure those needing care are receiving the best and most appropriate medical care for their injuries and ailments and are progressing to a safe and expedient return to a productive life and maximum medical improvement. 
In addition to workers compensation case management, we offer chronic disease management programs. We are continually adding other health prevention case management programs.
