Workers’ Compensation
Since 1990, Montana Health Network has been offering a self-insured Workers’ Compensation Trust. It is the largest self-insured in the State of Montana with a proven track record for controlling costs and returning employees to work. In-house Risk Managers, Case Managers, and Occupational Therapists focus on successful outcomes. The process is proactive starting from job analysis, employee education, through claims analysis, and return to work support. Policies, procedures, forms, and on-site support are provided.
General & Professional Liability/Malpractice
The Montana Health Network Liability and Casualty Exchange has been providing General and Professional liability and Physician Malpractice since 1999. A key advantage of this program is that it is Montana-based and monitored by the State of Montana Commissioner of Insurance. Another advantage is that the members are considered low risk which keeps premiums down.
Privacy and Security/Cyber Insurance
With the world of electronic medical records upon us, there are new risks related to protecting information. There are many examples of breaches from lost/stolen laptops to hacked computers. The cost of reporting, notifying, and recovering from one of these situations can be staggering. Privacy and Security/Cyber insurance provides risk management on the front end and financial protection on the back end.
401(k)
Montana Health Network provides a Multiple Employer Plan through Transamerica Retirement Solutions. This model makes the 401(k) plan very affordable for facilities and employees and it combines the assets of all participants when negotiating fees. In addition, it moves most of the maintenance, reporting, and the associated fiduciary responsibility away from the local Human Resource departments.
Employer Sponsored Health Insurance
Since 1993, Montana Health Network has provided a multiple employer self-funded health plan. We have a valuable partnership with PacificSource to operate the plan and extend nationwide coverage. A variety of affordable plans are offered with multiple options including group and voluntary dental and vision. The primary goal is to provide stability of rates for participating facilities. This program also has attractive options for Flex plans.
Montana Health Network has also contracted with PacificSource to provide Flexible Spending Accounts. The advantage of this arrangement is that participants have the option of having their claims moved automatically from the claims department to the flex department. This eliminates the paperwork burden for the participants and saves on lost flex reimbursement.

Directors' and Officers/Employment Practices Liability
Montana Health Network
members joined together to group purchase an Executive Risk Policy which offers
lower rates and better coverage provisions. The Directors and Officers portion
provides protection for the actions of the Board in the event a claim is made
against them. The Employment Practices portion of the policy provides a defense
in the event an employee brings forth a complaint related to disciplinary
action, termination, or discrimination. An attorney hotline is offered at no
cost to give Human Resources staff an opportunity to obtain legal advice prior
to taking action related to an employee problem.
Medical Case Management
Nurse case management services have been provided by Montana
Health Network for over 20 years. MHN utilizes certified RN nurse case managers
to coordinate proper care for workers' compensation, and chronic disease management. We believe one of the keys to successful case
management is early intervention and the establishment of a trusting, professional, and positive relationship between the case manager and those needing services. MHN’s
goal is to be part of the team to ensure those needing care are receiving the
best and most appropriate medical care for their injuries and ailments and are
progressing to a safe and expedient return to a productive life and maximum
medical improvement.
In addition to workers compensation case management, we
offer chronic disease management programs. We are continually adding other
health prevention case management programs.
